Lisbon's concerts, street festivals, football matches and public holidays can change an ordinary day's route. There is no dependable year-round promise that a particular bus, museum or restaurant will run as usual on your travel date. Use this page to know where to make a final check, then plan around the specific event or disruption.

What is happening while I am in Lisbon?

Start with the Visit Lisboa event calendar for exhibitions and performances, then open the organiser's own page for the final time, venue, booking and admission rules. A listing may describe a recurring festival rather than this year's confirmed programme. For major annual events, our Web Summit, Santos Populares, Christmas and New Year's Eve pages explain the area and practical journey, while linking to official updates.

If your evening includes fado, check the performance and dinner conditions with the venue before reserving. Our Alfama guide names two houses and explains the neighbourhood; the Bairro Alto guide helps if you prefer bars and a livelier night. Neither area has one uniform opening time.

For a sporting visit, our separate guides explain the October 2026 Lisbon Marathon weekend and the March 2027 Lisbon Half Marathon. The two half marathons in those guides start on different bridges; use the page for the race named on your registration.

Will a strike or event change my transport?

Check the operator that runs the specific leg of your trip. Carris service alterations cover bus and tram diversions, including some street-event closures. The Metro line and lift status shows current operation and access equipment. For rail trips, use CP's warnings; a warning for one line does not automatically mean the entire network is stopped. A ride-hailing quote may also rise when demand or road closures are high.

For a flight, important appointment or timed ticket, check again the evening before and before leaving. Keep a second route in mind and allow extra time. If the affected journey is to the airport, read our departure guide; if it is a train to another city, see the intercity guide.

What changes on a public holiday?

Holiday opening is venue-specific. A supermarket, pharmacy, museum and restaurant on the same street may all follow different hours. Check the official page or call the place you intend to visit; do not rely only on a generic search result. For a pharmacy outside normal hours, our everyday essentials guide explains how to find the duty service.

Book any essential meal or attraction with the date in mind, and check your return transport as well as your outward trip. A street celebration may be enjoyable to visit, but it can also change the route to your accommodation. If your address is in a restricted historic area, agree a suitable pickup or drop-off point with your host.
