Your last morning in Lisbon is easier if you work backwards from your flight. Our planning suggestion is to reach the correct terminal about two hours before a domestic or Schengen flight, and three hours before a non-Schengen flight. These are starting buffers, not guaranteed clearance times: follow any earlier instruction from your airline and add the journey from your accommodation separately.
How early should I arrive?
The airport publishes these check-in recommendations:
| Flight category | Airport's check-in guidance before departure |
|---|---|
| Schengen | 90 minutes |
| Non-Schengen within Europe | 120 minutes |
| Intercontinental | 180 minutes |
Do not read these as safe last-minute terminal arrival times. Our two/three-hour suggestion leaves more room for the shorter routes. Allow extra margin for children, assistance, checked bags or disruption; check when your airline's bag drop actually opens.
Departure time is not the gate deadline. For example, TAP requires passengers at the gate at least 30 minutes before departure. Follow your own airline's deadline, including document checks even after online check-in.
EU or non-EU: which flights have passport control?
The useful distinction is Schengen. Paris and Madrid normally have no routine border check from Lisbon. Zurich and Oslo are also Schengen, despite being outside the EU. Dublin is in the EU but outside Schengen; London is outside both. Expect border control for these last two destinations.
Your route determines whether you cross an external border; your nationality and status affect the documents and lane you use. Carry valid travel documents even within Schengen, where temporary checks remain possible. For a non-Schengen departure, continue towards border control after security, before settling down for food or shopping.
How long are the queues, and does Fast Track help?
There is no dependable single waiting time for your flight. Bag drop, security and border control are separate queues. ANA's service-quality reporting describes past performance, not a live prediction. Check airline messages and airport notices on the day; a friend's quick passage is not a useful deadline for yours.
ANA Fast Track gives priority access to security screening. It is not a passport-control shortcut or a replacement for check-in and gate deadlines. At security, Lisbon currently requires liquids in containers of up to 100 ml, inside one transparent bag of up to one litre per person; check the rules and exceptions for medicines and baby food.
The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) records border crossings by many non-EU short-stay visitors, with biometric registration or verification. It has been fully operational since 10 April 2026. Exemptions apply, including for EU citizens and qualifying residence-permit holders; consult the official guidance for your circumstances. Do not assume an electronic passport removes every staffed check.
Leaving from Terminal 2
Check your terminal on your booking. From Terminal 1, the free Terminal 2 shuttle runs about every 12 minutes, with a journey of roughly three minutes. That is not the total transfer time: allow for walking and waiting too. Terminal 2 closes from 00:30 to 03:30. For an early flight, plan your transport rather than assuming the metro is already running.
Arrivals and connecting flights
On arrival from outside Schengen, allow for border procedures and baggage before promising a pickup time. If you connect through another Schengen airport first, entry checks normally happen there. For connections on separate tickets, collecting and rechecking bags, another security check and a terminal transfer can all add time. Ask the airline about your itinerary rather than applying our departure buffers to a connection.
Our airport transport guide covers the journey into town. If your flight is late in the day, leave your luggage in the city and set a clear time to collect it and leave for the airport.
