Lisbon Marathon 2026: Race Weekend Guide

The 10 October 2026 marathon starts in Carcavelos. Plan bib collection, the train to the start, the finish and the separate Sunday half marathon.

The EDP Lisbon Marathon is on Saturday, 10 October 2026. It starts at 08:00 in Carcavelos, near NOVA SBE, and finishes at Praça do Comércio in central Lisbon. This is a change worth noticing if you remember earlier editions starting farther west. The organiser's race page and 2026 runner's guide should be your final reference for your wave and travel instructions.

Where and when do I collect my bib?

Marathon runners collect their bib and kit at Sport Expo, Pavilion 3 at FIL in Parque das Nações, on Thursday 8 or Friday 9 October, 10:00–20:00. The current runner's guide says there is no marathon bib collection on race day. Bring the registration document sent by email; it can be shown on a phone. If another person collects for you, they need that document. FIL is a walk from Oriente station, on the Red Metro line and the rail network. Allow time to find Pavilion 3 rather than treating “FIL” as a single entrance.

The organiser's 2026 regulations name a different pavilion from its current runner's guide. For this practical detail we follow the runner's guide, which says Pavilion 3; check your registration email for any last-minute change.

How do I get to the marathon start?

From Lisbon, the organiser recommends the Cascais-line train from Cais do Sodré to Carcavelos. The start on Estrada N6-7 is roughly 1 km from Carcavelos station. The runner's guide says the train is free for marathon participants showing a bib and recommends the specific train indicated on it. Do not plan around the final possible departure: the guide warns that services leaving Cais do Sodré after 07:10 will not reach the start in time. Check the runner's guide and CP service alerts again before race day.

Your finish is at Praça do Comércio, not back in Carcavelos. Decide where you will meet companions and how you will return to your accommodation before setting out. The official race bag service uses the bag and sticker provided with your bib; keep valuables and travel documents with you, and follow the organiser's bag instructions rather than using a city luggage locker as a substitute. Our Lisbon luggage guide covers storage for the rest of your trip.

Is the Sunday half marathon the same event?

No. The Hyundai Half Marathon is on Sunday, 11 October 2026, at 09:20. It starts on the Vasco da Gama Bridge and also finishes at Praça do Comércio. According to the organiser, runners can reach its bridge start only on the official buses from Oriente, operating from 06:30 to 07:30; the suggested bus time appears on the bib. Its Expo bib collection also runs on Saturday 10 October. Do not follow the Saturday marathon's Carcavelos train instructions for Sunday's race.

The EDP Lisbon Half Marathon in March 2027 is a third, separate race, starting on the 25 de Abril Bridge. Check the name and date on your registration before booking transport.

Visiting or watching during race weekend?

The marathon route follows the coast and river into central Lisbon. It makes for a memorable visit, but road access and some bus or tram journeys near the route may change. Spectators should use the official route and runner's guide to choose a viewing area, then check Carris service alterations and your return trip. Do not assume a taxi or ride-hailing car can cross the route at the point nearest your accommodation.

For a journey into town, see our airport-to-city guide. If you are staying in the centre, the walking and hills guide helps with the last stretch after the finish.
